GLP-1 Nausea & Sulphur Burps (and Why We Temporarily Adjust Your Nutrition Advice)

Gastric side effects are by far the most common ones reported by GLP-1 users. So if you’re on a GLP-1 like Wegovy or Mounjaro and you’ve suddenly developed nausea or those awful “rotten egg” sulphur burps… you’re not alone. And you’re not doing anything wrong.
Here’s the important bit…
Your nutrition isn’t the problem — your stomach physiology has temporarily changed.
GLP-1 medications make the stomach empty much more slowly. That’s part of how they help with appetite and weight loss.
- But it also means:
- Food sits in the stomach for longer
- Fatty meals linger and ferment
- Protein that hangs around too long produces sulphur gases
- Large meals overwhelm the system
- Nausea becomes MUCH more likely during dose increases
So yes, sulphur burps are unpleasant, but they’re predictable and absolutely manageable.
OK but what about ProLongevity nutritional advice?
- My long-term guidance remains exactly the same:
- Minimise sugar and ultra-processed carbs
- Prioritise protein (target 2g per kg ideal body weight)
- Use healthy fats to fuel, nourish, and stabilise appetite
- Eat real, nutrient-dense food
BUT… during GLP-1 dose escalation your stomach simply can’t handle the same “heaviness” it normally would.
This is natural physiology, not a failure of some sort.
The Nuance, And Why We Adjust Things Short-Term
Healthy fats are brilliant for metabolic health. But they are also the slowest macronutrient to leave the stomach.
Combine high fat + GLP-1 gastric slowing and the end result can be nausea + sulphur burps.
Protein is vital, but large portions can linger too long during dose titration.
So the solution is not to abandon our strategy. It’s to modify how you apply it until your dose stabilises.
- Once your dose is stable, MOST people find:
- Nausea disappears
- Sulphur burps resolve
- Fat tolerance returns
- Appetite becomes predictable
- You can fully return to the classic ProLongevity low-carb, high-protein, healthy-fat approach
Your long-term nutrition doesn’t change.
Your stomach just needs time to adjust to the medication.

Final Thought:
Our nutritional approach plus our “Start Low / Go Slow” use of the GLP-1s means we save you £££ and minimise side effects. How many other providers can say that?

Foundayo (Orforglipron): The New UK Weight-Loss Pill – Is It Really a ‘Treatment for Life’?
A new daily GLP-1 weight-loss pill has been approved in the UK. Some headlines are already calling it a potential “treatment for life”. Foundayo clearly works but the science does not yet tell us that everyone who starts it will stay on it, or need it, for life.
